Kathmandu: Preparations are in full swing to form a new government in Nepal after PM KP Sharma Oli lost the floor test in the House of Representatives. Nepal's main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to stake claim to the POST of PM. Earlier in the day, the President had asked political parties to stake claim to form a new government by Thursday.
A meeting of Nepal Congress functionaries held on Tuesday decided to form the next government. The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led party has the support of nepal communist party maoist centre (CPN-MC) and hopes that janata samajwadi party-nepal (JSPN) mps will also support it. Earlier, President Bidya Devi Bhandari's office had said on Monday that she had decided to invite parties to stake claim to form a majority government under Article 76(2) of nepal's constitution.
It has also expressed hope of impressing mps from the CPN-UML led faction led by Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalnath Khanal to help form the government, the Himalayan Times reported. In the 271-member House of Representatives, the NC has 61 members while the CPN-MC has 49 MPs. With the party requiring 26 more MPs to form a coalition government under its leadership, 32 Members of JSP-N can play an important role in the formation of the government.
