ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, a former Pakistani prime minister, reportedly stated that he had no intention of choosing the future army leader because "appointments against merit ruined  institutions."

Speaking at an event in Islamabad on Wednesday, the ousted premier reaffirmed that PML-N Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan had "confessed" that the opposition parties had conspired against him at the time because he intended to name Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed as the new army chief to allegedly carry out his plan to rule the nation for the next 15 years without opposition. The PTI chairman asserted that, because he valued meritocracy, he had no such plans.

Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the PML-N, allegedly "tried to appoint his favourites for such prestigious positions because he had to protect his ill-gotten wealth and looted money," said Imran Khan.

According to the former prime minister's US-backed regime change conspiracy theory, Washington just sought to protect its own interests and did not care about the welfare of any other nations, the report reads.

"He had firmly refused to do so because giving the US military bases was not in Pakistan's best interests. Although I want to have good relations with the US and am not anti-American, I cannot stand by and watch as they treat us like "tissue papers," Khan said.
