Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has set up a State Investigation Agency (SIA) to investigate and prosecute crimes under the UAPA and Explosives Substances Act. The agency will coordinate with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other central agencies. The agency will conduct effective investigations into terrorism-related cases as well as prosecution.
According to an order issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department on Monday, there will be a director at the State Investigation Agency (SIA). Officers and employees will be sent by the government. CID will be the honorary director of the premier agency. 25% of the basic pay will be given to the employees posted in the State Investigation Agency (SIA). The order said that all police stations in charge will report the registered cases related to terrorism to the SIA at the same time.
Even if the angle of terrorism is found during the investigation, the SIA has to be informed. DGP can hand over the investigation of any case to the SIA keeping in view several points such as the severity of the crime. SIA can take suo motu cognizance of any matter and file an FIR, but it will be mandatory to report it to the DGP.
