New COVID-19 SOP and curfew from 11:30 PM announced by Assam Govt

In the midst of the ongoing omicron fear, the Assam government issued a new set of COVID SOPs on Saturday, imposing a night curfew from 11:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday and making masks mandatory once again. According to the government's SOP, the night curfew would be in effect from 11.30 p.m. to 6 a.m. across the state.The curfew, however, will not apply on December 31, 2021, or New Year's Eve.

Up to 10.30 p.m., all workplaces, business/commercial establishments, dine-in restaurants, hotels, dhabas, and other eateries, takeaway food items from restaurants/dhabas and other eateries, the opening of sale counters, showrooms, etc. of cold storages and warehouses, shops dealing with groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy and milk booths will be open.

The jurisdictional DDMAs shall set the limit of gatherings in open places for meetings and gatherings based on the COVID situation in their respective districts.


In closed venues, the gathering is limited to 50% of the hall, auditorium, or other venue's seating capacity. For famous locations, 60 completely vaccinated people per hour are permitted, and for other holy places, 40 fully vaccinated people per hour are allowed.Cinema halls are still operating with a 50 percent full capacity of fully vaccinated viewers and COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.

For COVID Appropriate Behaviour in all public places in order to control the COVID-19 virus, all District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, and all other authorities involved should be accountable for guaranteeing COVID Appropriate Behaviour in all public places.

All District Magistrates and Police Superintendents will ensure that guests to the above-mentioned venues comply to COVID Appropriate Behaviour."They will deploy a sufficient number of teams to keep vigilant watch in public areas and enforce COVID Appropriate Behaviour to avoid any potential of a rise in COVID-19 cases," according to the SOP.
