Beers and fruit wines can no longer be sold in large malls in the state. With this, the Excise Department has decided to discontinue the practice of making L-10 licenses in Himachal forever. Apart from this, the new excise policy will not allow big mall operators to sell foreign liquor, beer, and fruit wine. Till now, L-10 licenses were issued to department store operators.

This required the general store operator to have 1000 sq ft area and a turnover of about two crore rupees per year, but the new excise policy plans to completely close the provision of licensing of foreign liquor, beer and fruit wine in big malls. From next financial year, the imported liquor in the state will be supplied from the public custom bonded godown located in the state.

The Excise Department allows liquor to be temporarily kept on the L-50A license for the wedding ceremony. With this, according to the demand of liquor, the L-50A license is made for Rs 600 to 1200, while for making a lifetime L-50 license, a fee of Rs 2500 is charged. The new excise policy is likely to change in both license fees. Along with this, the liquor quota on these licenses can also be changed.
