Thiruvananthapuram: A new initiative is being started for the jail inmates of Kerala. In this, inmates will be able to work on 3 petrol pumps made at the site of the jail in the state. The project has been started by the Indian Oil Corporation and Jail Department at the Central Jails in Thiruvananthapuram, Bichur, and Chennai Free Prison. It was inaugurated by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan through a video conference on Thursday.
Thus 1 pump will open in Kannur Central Jail. CNG fuel will also be available at these pumps and electric power can also be charged. These petrol pumps remain at the site of the jail, which has been leased by the IOC for 30 years. To work here, the prisoners were selected for their good behavior and they have also been given training. Officers have told that they will also be given a salary for work according to the jail rule.
The prisoners are being given a chance in a new area after the success of the inmates in the state to make other food items like biriyani, chapati, and chicken curry.
