Thiruvananthapuram: The new Motor Vehicles Act has come into force across the country from September 1. This law provides for heavy fines if found in violation of the rules. Many opposition-ruled states have opposed the law and have banned its implementation in their state. The latest name Kerala has been added to this list. However, this has not stopped here until now. But the ruling party of the state and the main opposition Congress have opposed this rule. They have a problem with a huge amount of fine.

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, the state secretary of the ruling CPI-, said that excessive fines are not correct and will increase corruption. At the same time, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the BJP-led NDA government has imposed a hefty fine in a unilateral manner without consulting the state governments. Chennithala criticized the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government for allegedly enforcing this revised law without 'softening'.

Large political parties have condemned this law in the light of the strong opposition of people and trade unions against the increase in fines which came into effect on 1 September. Balakrishnan said, "The number of increasing road accidents should be reduced. For that, effective intervention should be done. But the imposition of heavy fines will only increase corruption. All things should be changed in the Motor Vehicles Act. Tell that the state governments of Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal have not implemented this law on their own.
