NEW YORK:  The city NewYork has been declared a public health emergency on account of the monkeypox outbreak.

The declaration was made in a joint statement by the mayor and the city's health commissioner late on Saturday. According to reports, 1383 cases of monkeypox have been reported in New York State overall.  As per  the statement, "New York City is presently the epicentre of the outbreak, and we estimate that over 150,000 New Yorkers may currently be at risk for exposure to monkeypox."

The declaration will allow the health department to change the city health code and make emergency orders under its provisions in order to help contain the spread. The announcement was made a day after the outbreak-related state disaster emergency was declared by New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

The state health department referred to monkeypox as a "imminent threat to public health" on Thursday. The number of cases of monkepox in the US was 5,189 as of Sunday morning, the highest number ever recorded.

California (799) and Illinois (419) have the second-highest number of cases after New York. Monkeypox was deemed a public health emergency of worldwide concern by the World Health Organization on July 23.

About MokeyPox: Monkey pox is transmitted through bodily fluids. It can be transmitted from animals to animals and from humans to humans. Monkey pox can be almost confirmed by PCR test. Its incubation period is six to 13 days. That means if it gets infected, it will take 6 days to 13 days to become infected. It may last up to four weeks if desired. Monkey pox is more common in children. In addition, the elderly and those with other medical conditions are more prone to monkey pox transmission. They are also more likely to become more serious.

Monkey Fever and Monkey Pox are two diseases that have been discussed side by side in the past month. These two diseases are often addressed as the same. But there are differences between the two. The most important difference lies in the methods of transmission between the two. Monkey fever is transmitted from monkeys to humans by certain species of fleas. But monkey pox is transmitted only through direct contact with monkeys, pigs and squirrels. While monkey fever shows mostly flu symptoms, monkey pox shows chicken pox symptoms.
