Auckland: Former New Zealand cricketer John Reid has died today after a long illness. New Zealand cricket has given information about this. John Reid was 64 years old. While playing cricket for New Zealand, John F Reid had scored 6 centuries in 19 Tests, including a century which witnessed the historic victory of the New Zealand team in Brisbane against Australia.

The Test played against Australia in Brisbane in November 1985 was won by New Zealand with a difference of innings and 41 runs. In this, the 225-run partnership for the third wicket between John F Reid and Martin Crowe played an important role. During this partnership, Crowe had scored 188 runs while Reid contributed 108 runs. New Zealand was successful in scoring 553 for 7 wickets in the first innings due to the centuries scored by Reid and Crowe. Reichard Headley picked up Australia's 9 wickets for 52 runs in the first innings of that match, while taking 6 wickets for 71 runs in the second innings.

John Reid was a tremendous left-handed batsman and was known for his ability to play spin. But in that Test match of Brisbane, he also presented a unique example of his batting against the pace attack. In his Test career from 1979 to 1986, John Reid scored 1 296 runs with an average of 46. His conversion rate of turning the half-century into a century was 75 per cent. He had given the shape of a century to 6 of his half-centuries.
