Melbourne: Hosts Australia has suffered a major defeat in the first match of the Super-12 in the T20 World Cup. New Zealand defeated Australia by a margin of 89 runs. Batting first, New Zealand set a target of 201 runs in front of Australia and in response, the Kangaroo team could score only 111 runs. In this way, the Kiwi team defeated Australia by 89 runs.  

Batting first after losing the toss, the New Zealand team scored a huge score of 200 runs. Apart from Devon Conway and Finn Allen, James Neesham batted brilliantly for New Zealand. Conway scored an unbeaten 92 off 58 balls. At the same time, Finn Allen scored 42 off 16 balls and James Neesham scored 26 runs in 13 balls. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood took two wickets and Zampa took one wicket. In response, Australia's batsmen failed completely. Glenn Maxwell scored the highest 28 runs and Pat Cummins scored 21 runs. Australia was bundled out for 111 in 17.1 overs and lost the match by 89 runs.  

New Zealand's Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner took three wickets each. Trent Boult got two wickets. At the same time, Ferguson and Sodhi got one wicket each. This is Australia's biggest defeat by a margin of runs in the T20 World Cup. With this victory, New Zealand has avenged the defeat in the final of the 2021 T20 World Cup to Australia. This is the first time since 2011 that New Zealand has won a match in Australia.
