The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also issued notices to the Sports Ministry and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) following allegations of "inappropriate behaviour" on the head cycling coach by a woman cyclist in the middle of a training camp in Slovenia. According to a statement issued on Friday, the NHRC has taken suo moto cognizance of the matter and also sought a detailed report from the secretary of the ministry and the Director-General of SAI.

The NHRC said in the statement that it is surprising to know that instead of ordering the coach, SAI called the complainant back to India so that she could not train abroad for which she was also selected. The Commission has said that if the case is  proved to be true, it can violate the human rights of the woman cyclist.

The Commission has also sought information within four weeks about the physical and mental health status of the complainant and the action taken against the responsible officer, including the concerned coach. The commission also wants to know whether the woman cyclist has been given any special 'counselling' by the authorities. The contract of the chief cycling coach has been cancelled after SAI found him guilty of "inappropriate behaviour" in a preliminary inquiry on Wednesday.
