Visakhapatnam espionage case: Pak spy arrested from Gujarat, used to work for ISI

AHMEDABAD: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a key accused in the Visakhapatnam spying case for espionage for ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency. The 37-year-old Imran, a resident of Godhra, Gujarat, has been arrested on Monday under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Official Secrets Act, the NIA said.

Imran was involved in espionage activities and is accused of working for Pakistan's ISI. The charges include criminal conspiracy, raising funds for terrorist activities, sharing confidential and sensitive information, etc. According to the NIA, the case is related to an international espionage racket. In which Pakistan-based spies have recruited agents in India to gather sensitive and critical information regarding the locations and movements of Indian Navy ships, submarines and other defense installations.

The investigation has revealed that some naval personnel has come in contact with Pakistani agents through social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp etc. The NIA said investigations have revealed that the arrested accused Giteli Imran worked for Pakistani spies and agents under the cover of the textile trade across the border.
