Despite the unrest in Sri Lanka’s Kandy and the consequent emergency imposed for ten days, the Nidahas Trophy will remain unaffected and will continue as per the schedule.

The Nidahas Trophy will start with the T20 match between India and Sri Lanka at Premdasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday. The news was confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley De Silva. Following the unrest between Muslim and Buddhist communities, Sri Lankan government had imposed emergency in the country for a period of ten days. Due to this, there were several speculations regarding the Nidahas Trophy.

“The matches are being played in Colombo and will go on as per schedule,” informed De Silva.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also released a statement confirming the same.

“There have been reports of curfew and an emergency being called in Sri Lanka. The situation is in Kandy, not Colombo. After talking to concerned security personnel, we have understood that situation is completely normal in Colombo,” said BCCI.

Nidahas Trophy is being organised to mark Sri Lanka’s 70th year of Independence. It is a tri-nation series which is played between India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The final will be held on March 18.
