Amritsar:In the absence of hostel rent during lockdown, the hostel owner kept nine girls from Nagaland hostage in the hostel for the past several days. On the information of the neighbors, the police went and opened the lock. The owner of this hostel located in Garden Colony had locked the main gate on non-payment of rent.

In-charge Manjit of the police station Mohammadapura said that information was received that nine girls from Nagaland have been kept hostage. When he reached the hostel, its main gate was locked. The girls told that they are staying in this hostel for six months. They work in reception and spa centers in hotels. Due to the lockdown, they did not get salary, hence did not pay the hostel rent. One day the hostel owner came and was threatened to ask the hotel owner to pay the rent. If rent is not found, he will cut off the electricity and water of the hostel and lock it out and leave. The girls told that the people around them gave them food during the lockdown.
