New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government at the Centre has created a separate cooperative ministry ahead of cabinet expansion. On this, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the Ministry of Cooperation will provide a separate administrative, legal, and policy framework to strengthen the cooperative movement. The new ministry will work to make the process of simplifying business for cooperatives effective.

Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted, 'The Modi government has formed a separate 'Ministry of Cooperation.' The new ministry will provide a separate administrative, legal, and policy framework to empower the cooperative movement in India to realize the vision of prosperity from cooperation. It aims to strengthen the cooperative movement in the country and deepen cooperatives as a true people-based movement that reaches the grassroots level.'

Sitharaman said the ministry will provide a separate administrative, legal, and policy framework to strengthen the cooperative movement. The cooperative-based economic development model is extremely relevant to a country where each member acts with a sense of responsibility. The ministry will simplify trade for cooperatives. Sources said that the formation of a separate cooperative ministry also fulfills the budget announcement made by Nirmala Sitharaman. The decision is also being seen as an attempt to empower farmers.
