Today is the birthday of actress Nirupa Roy who made people go crazy with her performance. Nirupa Roy is no longer in this world but people have not forgotten her nor her performance. Very few people know that Nirupa Roy's real name was Kokila Ben and she was born in Valsad, Gujarat. She was seen playing the role of her mother in most of the films she did in her career. Very few people know that Nirupa played the goddess in about 16 films in Bollywood.

However, Nirupa got married before coming to Bollywood. He was married at the age of just 15 to Kamal Roy, a businessman by profession. Nirupa had studied till class IV and got a chance to appear in films through an advertisement. Seeing an ad, she auditioned to become an actress.

In fact, actresses were being discovered through this ad and at the same time Nirupa tried her luck. Nirupa did dozens of religious films with actor Trilok Kapoor and also gave several hits as a mother. Nirupa, however, got recognition from the film Do Bigha Zameen and was seen in many great films apart from this film. Nirupa, who has played the mother of actors ranging from Amitabh Bachchan to Shashi Kapoor and Jitendra, still lives in millions of hearts.
