Patna: Liquor Prohibition Amendment Bill was passed by voice vote in the Bihar Legislature. According to Amendment Bill 2022, the offender will be produced before the nearest magistrate and can go to their home after paying a fine. Failure to do so will result in imprisonment of 1 month. If caught repeatedly while drinking, he will be sent to jail. The amount of fine will be decided by the state government. The police will not have to produce the recovered items before the magistrate. Police officers can present electronic evidence. Confiscated goods can be disposed of by keeping the sample safe.

This change has been stamped and it has been passed in the assembly. Apart from this, the vehicle seized for violating the prohibition law will be auctioned. Minister Sunil Kumar said that 66 thousand vehicles recovered in the last 5 years in Bihar will be auctioned. Along with this, the burden of thirty to forty percent of the cases lying in the court will also be reduced.

Along with this, the minister said that with the implementation of this new bill, pending cases of liquor will be disposed of faster, rather first-time drinkers will be produced before the first class magistrate and released. In the same way, as in the Examination Act, the police release the examinees after recovering the amount of the fine. The police will release the person who consumes liquor after recovering the amount fine. After the amendment, the minister said in a discussion with the journalists, the innocent will not be harassed at all, but the criminal will not be released. However, repeat offenders will be punished and sent to jail. Before the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Amendment Bill 2022 was passed by the Legislature, permission has been received from the Nitish cabinet. Now it will be sent to the Governor for final stamping.
