Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been hailed as "the country's second Gandhi" in posters displayed in Patna by members of his political party, the Janata Dal (United). The posters commend Nitish Kumar for his efforts in promoting equality and social reforms, drawing parallels with Mahatma Gandhi's principles.

This development has sparked mixed reactions from other political parties. Shivanand Tiwari, a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), suggested that while Nitish Kumar's devotees put up the posters, comparing him to Mahatma Gandhi could be seen as an insult. He emphasized the uniqueness of figures like Mahatma Gandhi, stating that they are born only once in a millennium, referencing the political dynamics within the coalition of the INDIA bloc.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a former coalition partner of the JD(U), also criticized the poster. A BJP state spokesperson, Kuntal Krishna, expressed strong disapproval of the comparison between Nitish Kumar and Mahatma Gandhi. He labeled Nitish Kumar as "the most opportunistic leader in the country's politics" and accused him of changing political alliances for personal gain, particularly in the pursuit of the position of Prime Minister.

This development highlights the complex political landscape in Bihar, with shifting alliances and rivalries among political leaders. Nitish Kumar's contributions and leadership style continue to be a subject of debate and discussion in the state's political circles.
