No major Maoist violence in 2020: DGP M. Mahender Reddy

Hyderabad : No major Maoist violence in Telangana in 2020. Telangana Police Director General M Mahender Reddy told the media on Wednesday that the Naxalite violence had come to light in only three districts of the state. The remaining districts are far from Maoist violence and other activities. He said there were no new appointments among the Naxalites in the state last year. Some Naxalites who had migrated from Chhattisgarh saw the activities in the Charla police station area on the Telangana border and some of them were arrested by the Telangana police.

The DGP said that 11 Naxalites were killed in an encounter between police and Naxalites in Telangana this year. It consists of four ACMs. Police have arrested 135 Naxalites this year. These include two state-level secretaries, four district-level members and four regional committee members. In addition, 44 Naxalites surrendered this year due to police efforts.

Among those who surrendered were 3 DSMs, four ACMs and 38 Naxalite contingent members. Police seized a total of 22 weapons from the arrested Naxalites, including an AK-47 rifle, SLR, carbine, 8mm pistol, MM rifle and 15 other weapons. Apart from these, 490 pellets, 2555 gelatin sticks, 1945 detonators, 2.78 kg boosters, 6 bobby traps, 3 landmen and cash worth Rs 23,66,370 were also seized.

The Director General denied that the Urban Naxalites were active. He said the crime rate in Telangana would be reduced by six per cent by 2020. But the incidence of cybercrime and rape has increased. The DGP mentioned other criminal incidents in Telangana on this occasion.
