Putting an end to speculation on the issue, the Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das said that "There are no plans to introduce new Rs 1,000 notes.
Das tweeted that "no plans to introduce Rs 1000 notes, the focus is on production and supply of Rs 500 and lower denomination notes." He also addressed the issue of the ongoing cash shortage at ATM's, still, more than two months after the introduction of new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes but asked people to cooperate too.
"Request everyone to draw the cash they actually require. Overdrawal by some deprives others." he tweeted.
