Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has reacted to the concern of Karnataka leaders over the news that the names of several villages in Kasaragod district will be changed. He said, No decision has been taken yet on the name change of the villages. To this end, he wrote a letter to former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

In a letter addressed to Siddaramaiah, Pinarayi Vijayan wrote, "I am in receipt of your letter dated June 29, 2021. Let me assure you that no decision has been taken to change the name of any village in the Kasargod district. There need not be any apprehensions in this regard. We fully appreciate the feelings expressed by you for strengthening harmony and the bond among people of both the States."

Several Karnataka leaders, including Siddaramaiah, have recently expressed concern over reports that some parts of Kasaragod district have been renamed and given Malayalam names. On June 29, Siddaramaiah wrote a letter directly to the Kerala Chief Minister.

In the letter, Siddaramaiah said he was concerned about the news that the government had decided to change the names of some areas in Kasaragod district, which is predominantly Kannada and Tulu speaking. Pinarayi Vijayan pointed out that this would damage the morale of the people in the area and the ancient culture that brought the area its name. The CM was asked to take appropriate action without changing the names of the villages.
