Shillong: PM Narendra Modi reached Meghalaya on Sunday morning. He attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council in Shillong. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, Governors and Chief Ministers of all the North Eastern states, and other dignitaries were present in the function. At the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council, a short film on the 50-year journey of the Council was screened in front of Prime Minister Modi.

On the same occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in his address that the North Eastern Council meeting has just been held under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. The Prime Minister has instructed to prepare a blueprint for the Northeast for the next 50 years. If you compare the Northeast of 8 years ago and the Northeast of today, you will find that for the first time after Narendra Modi became the PM, the Northeast is walking on the path of peace and development. During his tenure, many districts of the North-Eastern states became AFSPA-free. We want those who followed the path of militancy to come into the mainstream and contribute to the development here. Earlier the budget was allocated for the Northeast, but it did not reach the bottom. Today the development money is reaching every village of this region.

Amit Shah said that Narendra Modi has visited the Northeast more than 50 times after becoming the Prime Minister. Before him, no other PM has visited North East so many times. Today our Northeast is going to be free from all disputes. Eight years ago, bomb blasts, firing, and separate militant groups had become the identity of the Northeast. The incidents of militancy have come down by more than 70 percent within 8 years under the Modi government. Incidents of attacks on security personnel have come down by 60 percent. As far as civilian deaths are concerned, it has come down by 89 percent and around 8,000 youth have surrendered to join the mainstream leaving the path of militancy. These are the major achievements of the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
