Delhi: After an encounter in north Delhi's Wazirabad region, two men involved in multiple robbery crimes were detained, along with two additional companions, police said on Wednesday. The arrests were made on Tuesday after police received a tip that Jitender and Naresh Mandal, who have been engaged in a number of robbery crimes in Delhi and the NCR, would arrive in Wazirabad in a car with others, they said. According to a senior police officer, officers set up a trap at RCC Nala Road in Wazirabad based on the tip and intercepted the suspect car about 10.40 p.m. As police attempted to stop the car, four guys out and began fleeing, one of whom opened fire, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi. According to him, police replied by shooting Jitender in the left leg. All four people were caught after a brief exchange of gunfire, according to Kalsi.

Jitendra Kumar Maurya (26), Rakesh Kumar Maurya (29), and Ravinder (26), all of Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh, and Naresh Kumar Mandal (27), of Jharkhand, are the accused, he added. Their possessions were two country-made pistols, five live ammunition, one empty cartridge, and one automobile. According to the official, Jitender has been shifted to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital for treatment.
