Kochi: The cyber police of Kochi on Wednesday (July 6, 2022) registered a case against a cleric named Waseem Al Hikami for hurting the religious sentiments of the Christian community through derogatory remarks on Jesus Christ. A police complaint was lodged by BJP leader Anup Antony against the accused cleric.
According to media reports, the accused maulvi is a resident of Kondotty in the Malappuram district. In December 2021 last year, the accused cleric posted a video on YouTube. In this video, many indecent comments were allegedly made about Christians. BJP leader Anup Antony had lodged a complaint with the police in the same case. Anup Antony is a former national secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). In the complaint, Anoop Antony has alleged that Maulvi Waseem Al-Hikami had made lousy remarks about the birth of Jesus Christ.
He said in his complaint, 'Many people complained about comments that were derogatory to Jesus Christ, but no legal action was taken. After that, I filed a petition in the Ernakulam Cyber ​​Cell by directly complaining to the Director-General of Police (DGP) of the state. The response was not as expected, following which I approached the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ernakulam and the Hon'ble Court directed that the matter needs to be taken into consideration. After which the state police registered an FIR.'
Anoop Antony said that he will continue to take action in the matter till it is resolved. In this case, the Kerala Police had registered a case under sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different religious groups), 295A (hurting religious sentiments) and 505 (statements conducive to public mischief) of the IPC on the directions of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Ernakulam on June 28.
