Chennai: In Tamil Nadu, the government has taken a big decision to take action against the miscreants. Tamil Nadu's amended Motor Vehicles Act now has a provision under which anyone staring at girls on a bus can be arrested. After the amended Act, activities like whistling, obscene gestures and sexual abuse against women in the state also come under the category of crime.

Under the amended Act, if a person misbehaves or molests a woman on a bus, the bus conductor will have to offload the passenger or hand her over to the police station for misbehaving with a woman due to the journey. Conductors who behave inappropriately against women will also get stringent punishment under the law.

The amended Act also provides that if a conductor touches a woman passenger on the pretext of assisting her, he will also be punished. If the conductor makes any joke or comment on women passengers, it will also be considered an offence. As per the rule, the conductor will have to maintain a complaint book in which passengers can register their complaints. If necessary, this complaint book will have to be submitted to the Motor Vehicles Authority or the police.
