New Delhi: The battle between the world's richest man Elon Musk and micro-blogging site Twitter will now be fought in court. A US court will begin hearings on October 17 in the $44 billion deal cancellation case. Justice Kathleen McCormick, in the Delaware Court of Chancery, while releasing the official schedule, said that the trial of the high-profile case will run from October 17 to October 21.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday opposed the case, stepping up his legal battle over the cancellation of the $44 billion deal. Earlier this week, Musk's lawyers filed a letter to the Delaware Chancery Court, saying Twitter was not cooperating in the pre-trial process. Twitter needs to be forced to do this. Musk's lawyers had claimed that Twitter was not even giving documents that should not be objected to. Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal had appealed for the matter to be heard at the earliest.

This is being seen as a major setback for Elon Musk as Musk was appealing to the court to start the case in February. Twitter, on the contrary, urged the court to run the trial in September. Twitter's appeal was opposed by Musk's team, but now the court has allowed the case to be run in October.
