New Delhi:  The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday opposed the plea of an accused to summon Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman Mukesh Ambani as a witness in a case related to the alleged attempt to assassinate industrialist Nusli Wadia in 1989. One of the accused in the case, Ivan Sekeira, moved to the special CBI court and sought to summon Mukesh Ambani as a witness.

The CBI in its reply said that the accused has no power, at this stage of the case, to seek further investigation in the case and his plea should be dismissed. For information, let us tell you that Kirti Ambani, a former senior executive of Reliance Industries Limited, was the main accused in the case, who died during the hearing.  

An FIR was lodged on July 31, 1989, against Kirti Ambani and others for allegedly conspiring to murder Bombay Dyeing chief Nusli Wadia due to commercial enmity. The Maharashtra government had transferred the investigation of the case to the CBI on August 2, 1989, but the trial began in 2003.
