New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor (LG) of the national capital Delhi Vinay Kumar Saxena has approved the proposal to hold the election of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Standing Committee members in MCD on February 16. Tell me, since the last 3 times the election of the MCD Mayor is not being held. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had proposed to call a meeting of the MCD House on February 13 or 14, but on February 13, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the matter, due to which the Kejriwal government and the MCD will be elected mayor for the fourth time on February 16. , Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee agreed to hold elections and sent this proposal to LG. Now the Lieutenant Governor has given the green signal to this proposal.

Please tell that the MCD House has so far failed to elect the Mayor 3 times. Whenever a meeting of the House is called for the election of the Mayor, there is an uproar and the proceedings are adjourned. The last meeting of the House for the election of the mayor was held on February 6 and the proceedings were adjourned after an uproar over giving voting rights to the nominated councilors. AAP has accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to stall the process.

Earlier on January 6 and again on January 24, the meeting of the House was adjourned after the uproar. AAP had moved the Supreme Court to hold elections under the supervision of the court. Let us inform you that the MCD elections in Delhi were held on December 4, 2022, and the results came on December 7. In this election, AAP won 134 out of 250 wards, while BJP got 104 seats.
