The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for Indian citizens has announced to extend the validity of motor vehicle documents by 30 September 2020. This means that all documents such as fitness certificates, permits (all types), driving licenses, registration certificates which have expired after February 1, 2020, or at any time will remain valid till September 30. This is for the convenience of those who are not able to renew their documents due to the lockdown issued to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Earlier this deadline was till 31 July 2020.

The Ministry has also issued a gazette notification on 21 May 2020, under Rule 32 or Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, giving fee validity and additional fee waiver till 31 July 2020.
