Guwahati: The last list of NRC was released in Assam on August 31. About 19 lakh people did not find a place. The Government had deployed a large number of jawans in the area to ensure heavy security. In view of the situation, the government has withdrawn 10,000 paramilitary personnel. Officials said on Saturday that there has been no violence in Assam since the NRC, which led to the decision.
The final draft of the NRC confirming valid Indian nationals in the northeastern state was published on August 31. The names of 19 lakh applicants were not included in the latest list of NRC. The Home Ministry on Friday reviewed the situation in the state as peace prevailed in Assam, officials said. After the review, it was decided to withdraw 100 paramilitary troops with immediate effect.
Out of 100 troops of paramilitary forces, 50 are from BSF, 10 CRPF, 16 ITBP and 24 SSB. A contingent of force consists of about 100 soldiers. Another official said that the forces have been instructed to return to their respective camps before deployment in Assam. There is no consensus in the BJP on the issue. The list has created a problem for the BJP after the large-scale outing of Hindus.
