New Delhi: National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit Moscow from September 10 to 11. During this visit, he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss peace efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to sources.

In addition to his discussions with President Putin, Doval will participate in the BRICS-NSA meeting. He is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his Russian and Chinese counterparts to follow up on discussions from the July summit in Moscow. BRICS, an informal group of 10 nations, includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia. The previous BRICS-NSA meeting took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2023, where Doval also represented India.

During a recent phone call with President Putin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed him of Doval's upcoming visit to Moscow to discuss peace initiatives following his trip to Ukraine. The Prime Minister did not specify the exact timing of Doval's visit.

In August, Prime Minister Modi visited Ukraine, where he emphasized that "dialogue and diplomacy" were the only solutions to end the war. He offered to assist personally as a friend in mediating peace with Russia, asserting that "India was never neutral in this war; we are on the side of peace."

This visit followed Modi's controversial trip to Russia, where a hug with President Putin elicited sharp reactions from the West and from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who described the meeting as a "huge disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts."
