New Delhi: NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, has inked an agreement with Varanasi Nagar Nigam for the construction of a Waste to Energy (WTE) Plant for Rs 180 crore as part of its commitment to sustainable development. The factory will aid in the reduction of solid waste-related environmental dangers and the creation of clean environments, adding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Swachh Bharat. According to a business release, NVVN has placed an order for EPC contract work on the plant today in order to expedite the project's completion.
The plant's construction will be a watershed moment in Varanasi's journey towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, as it will use the country's most advanced indigenous Make in India technology for solid waste management. The Varanasi Nagar Nigam has set aside roughly 20 acres of land in Ramana for the plant's construction.
The agreement was signed by NVVN and Varanasi's Additional Municipal Commissioner, Dushyant Kumar Maurya. Under the project, a plant with a waste segregation facility capable of handling 600-800 tonnes of municipal solid trash per day would be built. This waste will also be treated and put into the reactor, where it will be converted into torrefied charcoal.
