Dehradun: Uttarakhand Transport Corporation buses will ply from CNG soon. The corporation has floated a tender for it. 600 roadways buses will be converted from diesel to CNG. In fact, the Transport Corporation has recently leased some buses from Delhi from Indraprastha Gas Limited, which runs on CNG. It is operating in the Dehradun-Delhi route. These buses are earning a lot of roadways compared to diesel vehicles.
It was decided in the Board meeting recently that 600 transport corporation buses will be operated in CNG. The corporation which will add about 300 contract buses to its fleet will also operate from CNG. For this, the Corporation has also formulated a scheme of regular incentives. In the same vein, the Transport Corporation has floated a tender for the installation of CNG kits in its buses. It is going to cost about Rs 50 crore, for which the Transport Corporation has made its preparations. According to the Corporation, the process of conversion of buses to CNG will be initiated after tendering is floated.

As diesel prices continue to rise, the Transport Corporation is operating buses on many routes at very low earnings or losses. After installing CNG kits, the cost of these buses will be less and the earnings will be higher. It is on this basis that the corporation has decided to run CNG buses. According to the corporation, GM operations Deepak Jain, the tender has been floated. Action will proceed soon.
