BHUBANESWAR:  Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has announced that Odia film 'DAMaN', which is based on the malaria eradication programme of the state government, would be free  from tax.

 The movie is about the new standard of humanity a young doctor has launched for healthcare in Malkangari's outlying regions, as per a tweet from the chief minister's office.

This step will reinforce government and healthcare workers' commitment to providing excellent customer service. The chief minister also urged all government agencies to cooperate in order to create a society that is conscious and healthy. The movie, which is based on the government's initiative to eradicate malaria, would be completely exempt from entertainment tax while it was being viewed in theatres around the state.

The movie, which was directed by Debi Prasad Lenka and Vishal Mourya and was made by Deependra Samal, tells the tale of a Malkangiri doctor who goes above and beyond to provide medical care for tribal people living in remote and inaccessible areas of the district. Babushan and Dipanwit Dashmohapatra are the actors in it.

On November 4, the movie opened in 15 theatres in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune, and Hyderabad in addition to 51 theatres in Odisha. All performances both inside and beyond the state are drawing large crowds.

The highest rating for an Odia film on the platform to date is 9.7 on IMDB. Given the movie's popularity, its producers have decided to translate it into Hindi. Sansara was the first Odia movie to receive tax exemption from the state of Odisha. The 1974 film was written and directed by the late Sarada Prasanna Nayak.
