Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government expects to operationalize 15 major irrigation projects in the state by the end of 2024 in order to bring about a transformation in the irrigation sector.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held a meeting to discuss the state government's "transformative initiatives." The Department of Water Resources gave a presentation on these major irrigation projects. Four of the 15 irrigation projects will be completed this year, four in 2023, and seven in 2024, he said. At the meeting, discussions were held on the extensive use of technology such as underground pipeline laying, geilosyntetic mattress lining, SCADA, automatic water management, and so on.
These projects, according to the Department of Water Resources, have successfully used technology, teamwork, responsible rehabilitation policies, and labour welfare. Apart from engineering technology, the presentation emphasised timely decisions and teamwork from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) to ground level implementation, responsible rehabilitation, and and labour welfare.
District Collectors from Bolangir, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj shared information about how the displacement process has been accelerated in their districts. They explained how the displacement process was sped up by instilling trust in the community through discussions and a responsive system.
The presentation included updates on the progress of various irrigation projects such as the Deo project, the Lower Suktel project, Subarnarekha, Kanupur, Chheligada, Rengali South Canal, Rengali Left Canal, and several others.
