Nayagarh: The streets of Odisha had a festive attraction on Wednesday as residents of the Nayagarh district celebrated the 'Lanka Podi Yatra' with excitement and zeal.

Locals flocked to the district's Daspalla area to commemorate the 'Lanka Podi Jatra,' which ended on the 12th day with Lord Ram's death by Ravana. The town was decked out in festive garb to commemorate the 12-day celebration, which featured scenes from the epic 'Ramayana.'

This event is held in several locations throughout the state, but Daspallah in the Nayagarh district is the most prominent location, where it is celebrated with tremendous zeal and continues to draw visitors from all over the state.

As part of the practise, one episode of Ramleela, the great epic of Ramayana, would usually be recited every day throughout the celebration. On the 12th day, Lord Rama kills the demon Ravana, bringing the Jatra to a close.

The Jatra's main feature is a mobile 35-foot tall wooden idol of Ravana and his Pushpak Biman.
