BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has directed all district collectors to prepare a contingency action plan in case the Covid cases surge.

"The situation in Odisha with Covid-19 is not alarming. However, we were all aware that the virus had a tendency for spreading quickly. As a result, we've ordered district officials to keep an eye on things to see if there's an outbreak in any of the clusters "On Wednesday, Niranjan Mishra, director of public health, said.

Omicron BA.2 is now the most common strain, with a greater transmissibility rate. As a result, we must exercise caution, he stated. "We need to know if there is a spike in Covid cases in any cluster or pocket of the state in order to plan our next tactic. We also need to collect evidence-based statistics on the virus's outbreak "added the director. Therefore, the government has instructed district administrations to keep a contingency response plan on hand in case of an increase in cases, he added.

Mishra has requested that Covid surveillance and related actions be maintained in a letter to all municipal commissioners, collectors, and chief district medical and public health officers.

He said that the appearance of new cases/clusters, case positivity, population affected, geographical distribution of cases, and hospital infrastructure preparedness should all be reviewed on a regular basis.

Collectors were instructed to keep a watchful eye on those arriving from countries and states with high burdens. Mishra requested that the system be strengthened, stating that testing, tracking, treatment, immunisation, and Covid appropriate behaviour are the major management strategies. Officials were also told to make sure that the home isolation protocol is strictly followed and that adequate treatment is available.
