Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday to take important measures towards the state's green energy proliferation.
Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Managing Director of the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL), and Amit Garg, Executive Director Renewable Energy of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a five-year period to collaborate on the feasibility of setting up renewable energy plants and green hydrogen plants (both for domestic and export customers), round-the-clock (RTC) power for consumers, and proposed green hydrogen plants, setting up of requisite infrastructure, training, and knowledge sharing, etc.
"Green hydrogen will assist industry in reducing aggregate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, therefore contributing to the overall aims of the Government of India's INDC commitments," according to an IPICOL statement.
"As a power surplus state, Odisha is striving to expand its position in the power market, and these forthcoming facilities would enable Odisha-based heavy industries augment their growing power demand," it said.
"We have tremendous natural resources, and due to the expanding steel making industry, green energy is a great promise in Odisha, and it has a strong potential for generation of green energy from ethanol, solar, and hydrogen," said Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra.
