Rayagada: Officials in Odisha's Rayagada district announced on Sunday that 64 school children staying in two hostels tested positive for COVID-19.

After random testing, the students were found to be positive, but they have no symptoms of COVID-19 and have been isolated. Precautions have been taken and the situation is under control, said Rayagada District Magistrate Saroj Kumar Mishra. "There is no such thing as a corona outbreak. However, following random testing, we found some positive cases in two residential hostels, totaling 64 children. The students have been quarantined because they show no symptoms. We are, however, rechecking their samples at the state headquarters. In the dorms, medical personnel have been deployed "Saroj Kumar Mishra said.

A total of 44 students from the Anwesha dormitory in Rayagada district headquarters tested positive. This dormitory houses students from Rayagada's nine distinct English medium schools. In the Bismam Katak block of the Rayagada district, another 22 students from Hatamuniguda Hostel were determined to have contracted the illness.

Dr. Satyanarayan Panigrahi of the State Public Health Department in Bhubaneswar, who came to assess the situation, said, "The children are in good health. All of the positive patients are being attended to, and adequate treatment is being given. They are all clear of symptoms now. The situation is completely under control, and the district administration is taking the required procedures."

According to sources, on May 4, the fast reaction team of the Health Department forced 257 prisoners of Anwesha Hostel in Kotlaguda to take an RT-PCR test. COVID was discovered in 44 of them.
