Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik serving as the current and 14th Chief Minister of Odisha celebrates his birthday on Saturday, 16th October.  Taking an exemplary step, he has decided not to celebrate his birthday, this time too, in view of the COVID-19 situation. Patnaik said that he was always indebted to the people of Odisha for their love, good wishes and blessings.
What he said it his official statements read as follows; -"It has been two-and-a-half-year since people have been facing a hard time due to COVID-19 crisis. So, it will be a great pleasure for me if the well-wishers instead of visiting my residence perform the great deeds such as helping the families of those who died due to COVID-19 and blood donation."Â
Last year also, Patnaik had determined not to celebrate his birthday in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and asked his supporters and Biju Janata Dal workers to help the needy and donate plasma on the occasion instead. Patnaik is known as 'Mr Clean' for his attempts to bring transparency into his government. He is the founder and leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which he brought into being in 1998. He was felicitated by the UN for the effort he undertook to evacuate around a million people before cyclone Phailin hit Odisha's coast in October 2013.
