Odisha: President Ram Nath Kovind hailed the people of Odisha on the state's formation day on Friday, saying the state sent a message of peace, love, and nonviolence to the rest of the globe.

Odisha Day, also known as 'Utkala Dibasa,' commemorates the formation of Odisha as a separate state in 1936, following a protracted fight by its people. In 2011, the state of Orissa was renamed Odisha.

"On Odisha Day, my greetings to the people of the state," President Ram Nath Kovind posted on his Twitter account. Odisha, home to the temples of Jagannath, Lingaraj, Konark, and other rich heritages, sent a message of peace and love to the globe, avoiding bloodshed. My sincerest wishes for the state's prosperity."

PM Modi greeted expressing “On the special occasion of Odisha Day, best wishes to the people of Odisha. Odia people are making milestone contributions to India’s progress and Odia culture is internationally admired. I pray for Odisha’s  more progress in the times to come.

On this occasion, I pay my respects to the eminent advocates for the creation of an independent Odisha state.
