During the winter session of Odisha Assembly, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash informed the Assembly on Monday that As many as 1,003 government high schools in Odisha are running without headmasters. The state have 280 fully-aided private schools operating with no headmasters, the minister said during the Question-Hour session.

The Education department is undergoing a tough situation. As Parents association has recently alleged the department is supporting Private schools. To improvise the private education sector the government is closing 14000 government and government aided schools across the state. However, there were no strong evidence but a statement from the statement meaning Private institutes are encouraged in the state made people to worry about the closure.

The same number was as high as 2969 in the month of February 2020. The minister has informed 2969 High Schools in the State-run by School and Mass Education department are running without headmasters. Out of 8076 high schools in the State under the department, the post of headmaster in 2,969 schools is vacant. The number has been reduced which means few posts have been filled up.
