Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and former MLA Arjun Charan Das died in a road accident in Odisha's Jajpur district on Saturday (February 4). Inspector-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Manas Ranjan Chakra has informed that the accident took place on the Kharsrota bridge in the district when a truck hit the bike of Das, former MLA of Binjharpur assembly constituency.
Das was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead, while another person on the bike sustained injuries and has been referred to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital as his condition is critical, the official said. The former MLA had recently joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi led by Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao. Das was on his way to Bhubaneswar from Jajpur at the time of the accident. Founder member of BRS Odisha Akshay Kumar told the media that Das was on his way to the state capital Bhubaneswar to attend a press conference of the party. Rao has expressed grief over the death of the former MLA.
Let us inform you that, Das represented the Binjharpur assembly constituency in Jajpur from the year 1995 to 2000. He was the son of former MP Anadi Das, who represented the Jajpur parliamentary constituency. Anadi Das was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Jajpur constituency in 1971, 1980, and 1984 as a member of Congress and in 1989 and 1991 as a member of the Janata Dal.
