The Odisha people are anxious that the flood situation in the state, especially in Mundali and adjoining areas of Cuttack city, may worsen in the next 24-48 hours, according to reports. A great parts of the Mahanadi and Subarnarekha river basins have gone underwater and all the seven major rivers of Odisha are in spate. Earlier this week, at least nine people were killed in heavy rains triggered by pressure in the coastal state.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena said rescue teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Odisha Fire Service have been sent to vulnerable areas  He said,

“We are expecting a flow of about 8 lakh cusecs of water in the Mahanadi river system at Mundali near Cuttack by Saturday, while the water level in the Subarnarekha river is also rising, expecting the water level in the Subarnarekha river to be at its peak. 11’s height.

Meanwhile, reports said that the floodwaters of the Mahanadi have already reached agricultural areas and some villages in Cuttack and Khurda districts, while the waters of the Subarnarekha river have submerged around 30 villages in Baliapal and Bhogarai blocks.
