Odisha: The Central government provided Rs 830.85 crore to the state on Friday in order to speed up the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state. Odisha plans to become a 'Har Ghar Jal' state in 2024, according to a press release from the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Out of the 85.67 lakh rural households in the state, 35.37 lakh (41.28 percent) have access to running water. Water supply development is in full gear to ensure that settlements have access to safe drinking water. There is a plan in place to ensure that all rural households have access to clean drinking water.

According to the ministry, the Union Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has made it a top priority to provide tap water to every rural home in the country under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Odisha's financial allocation has increased dramatically to Rs 3,323.42 crores in 2021-22, up from Rs 812.15 crore the previous year.

The Jal Jeevan Mission is done in a decentralised way using a 'bottom-up' strategy, in which the local village community takes a significant part in all aspects of the project, from design to execution, management to operation and maintenance. For this, the state engages in community activities such as community engagement and Pani Samitis strengthening.

Odisha has established 3,695 village water and sanitation committees to date.
