Odisha schools reopen with new school hours amid scorching  heat wave

Bhubaneswar: Schools in Odisha reopened on Monday, according to amended timetables set by the state government due to the state's ongoing heatwave. The new schedule will be in place from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. starting today.

Today, students were seen attending classes in various parts of the city. On Sunday, the State Education Department tweeted, "The teaching hours for all schools have been revised, taking into account the present hot scenario. The classes will run from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m."

Principal Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department, BP Sethi, announced on Sunday that the government has decided to shorten summer vacation to give kids more time to make up for lost time in school due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bolangir district in Odisha had the highest temperature of 44.9 degrees C in the state, followed by Titilagarh town with 43.5 degrees C. According to a meteorological bulletin issued by the Regional Weather Agency today, the temperature in Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district and Subarnapur town was 43 degrees Celsius each.
