Odisha: SC Mohapatra, the Chief Secretary of Odisha, inaugurated a solar-powered energy system in a government-run high school in Ganjam district on Thursday. The Narayanpatna high school in Kankia panchayat is one of 535 government-run high schools in the district where the Ganjam district administration has invested Rs 9 crore to install solar energy facilities.

Solar panels would be installed in the first phase in transformed high schools under the 5T initiatives, where infrastructure facilities have already been completed, said the sources. The 5T initiative has already resulted in the construction of 366 high schools. Additional chief secretary Anu Garg, secretary to the chief minister, and 5T V K Pandian, who accompanied the chief secretary to the high school, are said to have praised the district administration for taking these innovative steps to make the district schools a go-green concept.

"The installation of solar panels is currently in full swing. Thirty high schools have already been solar-powered, and the rest will be finished in the next three months, according to Collector Ganjam Vijay Amruta KulangeHe said, the project's costs will be covered by corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds as well as contributions from Mo Schools.

In small and large high schools, solar energy generation units will be installed to provide 2 and 4 kw energy, he said.
