Bhubaneswar: Preparations for a possible shift in the leadership of the Odisha Congress are heating up, with senior leader Dr. A Chellakumar meeting with other top state leaders. The state unit president and CLP leader are both likely to be replaced in the near future.
In the wake of speculation about changes in the leadership of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, Dr. A Chellakumar, the party's state in-charge and AICC General Secretary, said a decision on the new party president would most likely be made as soon as he submitted a report to the party's high command on the party's recent developments.
"A decision on the new OPCC president will most likely be made as soon as I submit a report to the party's high leadership on the party's developments in the State," the Congress leader told reporters on Wednesday.
Niranjan Patnayak, the current OPCC president, resigned from his position in 2019, shortly after the Odisha Assembly elections and the 2019 General Elections. As a result, after the recent urban and rural elections in Odisha, calls for a total revamp of the party have gotten louder.
Only seven of the 108 urban local bodies were won by the Democratic Party in the recent civic elections (ULBs). In the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation election, it was unable to register.
The Congress has demanded that the position of President of the OPCC be filled by a member of the legislature. In this context, prominent Congress leader Suresh Kumar Rautray previously told the media that the OPCC presidents are chosen by Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik.
