Bhubaneswar: Questions are being raised on the railways after more than 280 people were died in a collision between three trains in Balasore, Odisha. From the opposition party to social media users, questions are being raised that when Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated 'Kavach', he had said that this defense system will not cause collision in trains, as drivers will get alerts in advance. Social media users are taking a dig at Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Railway Ministry.

Kavach, developed by the Indian Railways, was inaugurated in March 2022. During that time it was said that this would prove to be a milestone for Indian Railways. This 'Kavach' of Indian Railways in preventing rail accidents was being described as a master stroke and a big revolution. In March 2022, two trains were run on the same track in a trial of Kavach technology, one of which was carrying Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw himself,  while the other train had the Chairman of the Railway Board in the engine. Due to the 'armor system' installed in these trains, despite coming face to face on the same track, the trains did not collide and this trial was successful.

Meanwhile, the Indian Railways has responded to the questions surrounding the Balasore train accident, one of the most painful train accidents ever. Railway spokesperson Amitabh Sharma said that the anti-collision shield system could not be installed on the route where the accident took place. At present, the process of installing armor on every route of the country by the railways is going on. According to the 2022 report, the Kavach system for 2,164 km of South East Central Railway has been approved by the Railway Board. In the first phase, the Signal and Telecommunication Department has started survey work in the 615 km long Nagpur to Jharsuguda rail section. However, if the armor system had been installed on this route, it would not have been a painful accident and hundreds of people would not have died, but the work of installing this system on all the routes across the country is not that easy, it takes time. Now the railways is preparing to speed up this process of installing armor.
