Odisha train accident: PM Modi visits accident site, seeks information from officials

Bhubaneswar: Six to seven coaches of the Coromandel Express derailed in Odisha's Balasore on Friday evening and rammed into a train coming on another track, officials said. According to media reports, more than 280 passengers have died  in the accident so far. This has been confirmed in government data. At the same time, more than 1000 people are said to be injured in this accident.  

 

The accident took place at around 7.20 pm at Bahanga Bazar station when the Coromandel Express was on its way to Chennai Central from Shalimar station near Kolkata. Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi  has reached the accident site and union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is also present with him. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the accident site in Odisha.  

After this, Prime Minister Modi interacted with the officials on the spot and inquired about the accident and rescue work. He also held discussions with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. From here, PM Modi is also going to visit the hospital to meet the injured.  Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had expressed grief over the accident and also announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
